Consultation & Supervision
For over a decade I have enjoyed supervising graduate students in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling and Clinical Psychology from a variety of schools, including: Smith College School of Social Work, PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium, The Wright Institute, SFSU School of Social Work, Alliant University, California Institute for Integral Studies, JFK University, and Argosy University.
I also have extensive experience supervising pre-licensed clinicians and consulting with licensed clinicians both in agency settings and in private practice. I was previously Co-Coordinator of Training for a psychotherapy training program at a UCSF out-patient mental health clinic, where I taught others in the treatment of multiply-diagnosed clients.
My approach to supervision and consultation is collaborative, and integrative of various theoretical orientations. My theoretical approach to supervision is informed by diverse work experiences -- on a psychiatric crisis team, in the case management of homeless youth and the severely mentally ill, in HIV prevention and its psychological treatment -- as well as in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and practice.
I conduct ongoing consultation groups and have provided clinical trainings at local agencies on a variety of topics, including: substance abuse assessment and intervention, psychiatric crisis intervention, short-term dynamic psychotherapy, working with the transference-countertransference, and improving clinical cultural competency. Agencies I have consulted for include: UCSF Student Health and Counseling Services, University of San Francisco Counseling Center, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Catholic Charities/CYO, Marin AIDS Project, and the UCSF AIDS Health Project.
I have a specialization in alcohol and drug problems and their nexus with psychological disorders. I teach, consult, and provide direct treatment in this area, as well as conduct forensic and other alcohol and drug evaluations, in coordination with attorneys, the courts, and other parties.
I am a Fellow of the Psychodynamic and Psychoanalytic Teachers Academy of the American Psychoanalytic Association. I teach at California Pacific Medical Center, the ACCESS Institute and I am chair of SFCP Student Outreach programs for San Francisco.
